Hello! Thank you for visiting my blog! My name is Matthew Winders and I am a Junior at the University of New Hampshire. I have an amazing opportunity to study & backpack abroad for nine months! I will first fly to Greece for one month, where I will be studying and taking in all of the wonders that the country has to offer. From there, I will go to Scotland for two months to work on a horse farm! I will end my trip studying in the Netherlands for five months during the Fall 2023 semester. I am planning this trip because I believe that every culture has something unique to learn from. I am constantly looking for new things to learn and new people to meet. I believe studying abroad will provide me with unbelievable opportunities to do these things in cultures that are different from my own. I hope to bring back the things I learn abroad and share them with my community.
I am expressly excited for my trip to Scotland with Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) where I will take part in a farm education program. WWOOF is a non-profit and a worldwide movement to link visitors with organic farmers, promote a cultural and educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming and sustainability practices. I'm excited for my trip to be filled with adventure, community service, and experiential education. I am eager to learn about the partners that I meet with and the communities I visit. I really hope to come home with a better understanding and empathy for the different perspectives that are shared during this adventure!
I hope to share my experiences from studying abroad through my work in public service and my everyday life.
This trip is not cheap! With my 23rd birthday coming up I am asking people to support my education abroad in any way that they can.
I will post weekly updates when I start my trip on June 1st. Don't forget to subscribe to be notified when I post!
